7 tips to improve skin health

Pollution, stress, smoking or an unbalanced diet – these factors can all cause what is known as behavioral aging. While there are treatments available to address the issue, you can do more! Learn to identify the effects of bad behavior on your skin, and read our quick lifestyle and diet tips to protect yourself. Adopt a clean skin routine to improve skin quality and follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to flawless, gorgeous skin in no time.

1. Get rid of pollution build-up

Pollution can dull your complexion and increase imperfections. Skin ritual: Clean oily to combination skin with water, and sensitive or dehydrated skin with toner. Choose treatments with active ingredients or textures that form a protective film to stop pollution from adhering to your skin. On the menu: Green tea, grapeseed oil, cabbage, red peppers, strawberries, kiwi, wheatgerm, walnuts and hazelnuts.

2. Watch out for the drying effects of air-conditioning and indoor heating

Cranking up the air-conditioning or heating can make for dry, dehydrated skin. Skin ritual: During your daily skincare routine, don’t rinse too aggressively with water and use a richer, creamier version of your favorite moisturizer.
On the menu:
Eat fruits and vegetables with a high water content like watermelon, cucumber and melon, and drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day. In addition, consume foods rich in essential fatty acids such as rapeseed and walnut oil, soy, fish and nuts (hazelnuts, walnuts, etc.) to provide skin with extra hydration.

3. Protect your skin from the sun

Sun exposure can cause dark spots and fine lines. Skin ritual: Protect your skin by using sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30, and choose a highly nourishing moisturizer to fill in any fine lines caused by dehydration.
On the menu:
Foods rich in polyphenols like green tea, grapeseed oil, pomegranate, blueberries and raspberries.

4. Do you smoke on a daily basis? Your skin might be looking dull

Smoking can lead to a dull, dehydrated complexion. Skin ritual: Apply a scrub and mask once or twice a week. Replace your current treatment with a BB cream for an instant glow.
On the menu:
Drink 1.5 liters of water per day and incorporate green tea and grapeseed oil into your daily diet to combat tobacco’s oxidation effects.

5. Say goodbye to junk food

Consuming too many unhealthy snacks can lead to shininess and imperfections.
Skin ritual: Apply a scrub and purifying mask once or twice a week. Supplement your routine with a mattifying treatment, focusing particularly on the T-zone.
On the menu: Cut back on fatty or sugary snacks, which disrupt the balance of your skin. Replace with fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, fiber and minerals for a flawless, even complexion.

6. Feeling exhausted lately? Your skin might be in need of a boost

Fatigue can play out on your skin, leaving dark circles, under-eye bags and dullness. Skin ritual: Use a draining treatment for the eye contour area.
On the menu:
Food rich in vitamin C (acerola, cabbage, red peppers, strawberries, kiwi, etc.) and beta-carotene (mango, apricot, carrots, etc.).

7. It’s time to de-stress!

Stress can lead to skin dehydration and tired, drooping features. Skin ritual: Consider boosting your well-being with exercise: physical activity helps eliminate toxins and encourages skin regeneration.
On the menu:
Food with high water content (fruit and vegetables, dairy products) and anti-stress foods containing magnesium (green vegetables, whole grain cereals, almonds, chocolate) or potassium, found in fruit (bananas), vegetables and some starchy food (potatoes).
